With the purpose of researching on caravans and nomad life (in a practical way), we started a series of journeys, following the main routes caravans did through history in Morocco (the international situation and conflicts in the Sahara region do not allow the caravans to cross the borders with Algeria and Mauritania anymore). The first one, Qafila Oula, took place between Tissardmine (Errachidia) and M’hamid El Ghizlane (Zagora), a 300 km trek that took two weeks, organised with the help of our friends from Café Tissardmine and with Halim as a guide.
You will find the maps Carlos used to situate himself at each moment of the journey, the notes he wrote down on a notebook, as well as the pictures and video he took. All the equipment he used was manual, an analog Sprocket Rocket camera, an analog Lomokino camera and a compass. He decided not to use electronic equipment in order to avoid solar panel chargers or batteries.
